As 2015 draws to a close, I can’t help but think of the year we just had at fredi. We went through a significant change of our brand; we took our design and editorial content to the next level. fredi is still strong and as we enter into our second year and our 11th year of publishing, we want to let you in on a little secret; we’re here to stay!
Moving into the new year, we will continue to bring you interesting stories that cover lifestyle, home and décor, travel, recipes, fashion as well as food and drink. Let fredi take you through the holidays and early winter with information that is timely, fun and interesting. Sit with a copy as you wind down after a busy day of shopping or cooking. You may want to flip to our wine article by Alan Marginean, pour yourself a glass and relax. He has some great gift ideas and offers some suggestions for wines to serve at your next dinner party.
In this issue of fredi, we also focused on winter related content with a splash of holiday ideas and recipes. Flip through and read our cover story on the bold, entertaining and world-renowned Chef, Jamie Oliver, who took Toronto by storm a few weeks back. He has a new book, a new TV series and a restaurant that may be opened by the time you read this. Jamie Oliver loves Italian food and his new place; Jamie’s Italian is coming to Yorkdale! Try one of his recipes from his new book ‘Everyday Super Food’, or one of ours; a new twist on French Toast by Danielle Rose as well as a great egg-nog punch that will surprise you and your guests. You won’t believe how yummy it tastes!
There are lots of ideas for holiday gift giving. Try some Charlotte Tilbury beauty products, which are currently exclusive at Holt Renfrew (Bloor location only) or read about what’s trending in beauty for 2016. We asked some experts and you’ll be interested in what they had to say. If you are heading out of Vaughan to do some shopping, why not visit some neighbourhoods of the 416. Be sure to read the last in our series by Vanessa Buttino. And when you finally relax at the end of each day this holiday season, be sure you get a good night’s sleep. If by chance you’re not sleeping well, you might find the reason why in Rosanna Bonura’s article as she discusses how it may be your bedding that needs changing.
As winter approaches, you will want your home to be warm and cozy with a properly working replace. If you don’t have one, be sure to read about all the options you have and what to know before making that decision. Linda Mazur has made it very easy for you.
Last but not least, if you’re concerned about eating healthy this holiday season, Dr. Michael Carozza has some great tips on how to still enjoy the holidays, eat healthier and not compromise on flavour. As much as eating healthy is a lifestyle change and choice, you don’t have to feel that it has to be difficult. He has some great alternative suggestions for you so you can still enjoy a holiday meal or parties with family and friends!
And speaking of families, please enjoy your time with yours. Do things that will make lasting memories. Make this holiday season special, not just about receiving, but more about giving, even if it is just more of your time. Nothing makes a person feel more special or is more lasting than the gift of time.
