Gadgets for the Guys

Now I don’t know about you, but my hobbies and interest toward gaming and electronics have definitely changed as I’ve gotten older. That’s the wonderful thing about technology, it never ceases to be tweaked and honed to perfection, and finding the right fit for your needs is somewhat of an art form. Let’s face it, shopping for your dad/husband/brother with a decked out collection of amazing tech pieces can be challenging for anyone, so I decided to suggest some of my top pieces to emerge this year. If you supply your time, I’ll supply the toys.

  1. Goji Smart Lock | $137+
Considered the pinnacle of locks, Goji will take pictures of your visitors and actually send them to your phone keeping a log of all activity around your house. Plus with its built-in feature that allows you to set specific dates and times to allow certain visitors access to your home, there is no need to share spare keys. Talk about a tech time saver.
  2. Powerbeats 2 Wireless Headphones | $200
Good music does things for me and having the right gear to take the bass of your favourite song to the next level can be game changing. The LeBron James-inspired Powerbeats 2 headphones by Beats by Dre are water-resistant buds designed to enhance your music listening experience while working out. With the cable wrapping around the back of your head, having those annoying ‘cords in the way moments, no longer apply. Bluetooth connected and can play for up to six hours…Count me in!
  3. Mophie Juice Pack H2PRO | $130
Welcome to the world of iPhones, where complaining about battery life makes you a part of the in crowd. It can be frustrating having your phone die midday, so Mophie’s latest Juice Pack is a great solution. Doubling as a waterproof case and an extra battery, extending the life of your phone sounds pretty great to me.
  4. 360Fly | $499
GoPro for years has created incredible action worthy cameras, but have you ever wished that you could turn your footage around to shoot what’s behind you? With the 360fly sportscam’s ultra-wide-angle lens that captures 360 degrees of horizontal video and 240 degrees of vertical video at the same time, having every moment documented goes unfiltered. Being able to see footage from every directional angle is a dream, so for its price point this is a steal!

Apple Watch

  1. Fitbit Flex | $100
Wearable technology is the new black. That’s the saying right? Either way, 2015 has been the year for really expanding fashion and technology’s integration, especially with products like the new Flex from Fitbit. Tracking steps, distance and calories burned, while at night tracking your sleep quality, this piece of stylish tech is for the health and fitness lover.
  2. iMac with Retina 5K Display | $2399+
With everyone focusing on the new Apple Watch, people tend to forget about some of the amazing products available in their new lines. Their new 5K Display iMac is no exception with its workstation-level performance combined with a beautifully crafted 27-inch screen that has somehow managed to offer the same pixel density as the smart- phone that you own. As a video editor myself, this is drool worthy.
  3. 4-In-1 Lens | $80
Olloclip has been an innovative leader when it comes to changing your personal iPhone photography game. If you’re looking to deck out your Instagram with high-quality shots, their 4-in-1 Lens is an amazing portable addition to your arsenal of apps. At a reasonable price point, the lens includes a fish-eye, wide-angle, and 10x/15x macro options to take your photos to the next level. It attaches to your phone, this isn’t a drill.
