The Apple Watch: A new phase in wearable technology

Wearable technology has become a new field of exploration for gadget and fashion enthusiasts, especially with the news of Apple selling over 1 million watches since it’s pre-order release date earlier this month. This news comes as no surprise with the company’s past track record for debuts, but unlike previous Apple products, the watch is one of the first consumer ready fashion accessories that will alter the way we communicate.

The Smartwatch as it is called comes in three versions specifically: the Apple Watch ($549), the Watch Sport (starting at $349) and the Watch Edition (which ranges for $10,000 to $17,000). The price will vary per version based on the case size, the band itself, and whether or not it is 18-karat gold.

So is it worth the buy? There are definitely pros and cons when it comes to deciding whether this wearable piece of tech actually fits the hype. Firstly, you’re going to need an iPhone 5 or newer model to access the ability to use your apps from your mobile on the watch itself. Using what they call a ‘glance’ system, Apple has created miniature versions of their apps so that you will be updated with emails, news, text messages, tweets, and other relevant social media alerts in a way that gets you to the information that counts. The watch can also be used to answer and make phone calls thanks to the built-in microphone and speakers.

That being said, it will definitely take some time to learn when the right time to swap, push, tap or slide is. Will you be jumping on the trend?
